Impact of mitochondrial lipogenesis on thermogenic function and inter-organelle crosstalk of brown adipocytes

Mitochondria are not only the powerhouses of cellular respiration and catabolize different nutrient derivates but are also capable to actively synthesize fatty acids. The role of the mitochondrial derived fatty acids in systemic energy metabolism is unclear. With this project we aim to characterize the function of mitochondrially synthesized fatty acids in the thermogenic function, intracellular energy storage and mitochondrial organelle crosstalk to the endoplasmic reticulum and want to define the impact on whole body metabolic health in mice and humans.
