Brown adipose tissue (BAT) dissipates energy and promotes cardio-metabolic health. In this publication, Nieman et al identifiy inosine as novel tissue-messenger in brown fat (BAT). They show that treatment of mice with inosine increased BAT-dependent energy expenditure and induced “browning” of white adipose tissue. This work was performed in close collaboration of projects P5, P10, P11, P15 and P16 of the CRC/TRR333 BATenergy.

Professor Emeritus Jean Himms‐Hagen passed away on December 1, 2021. Jean will be fondly 4 remembered by many for her foundational contributions to research on brown adipose tissue 5 metabolism and physiology, and for her extensive contributions to education, service, and 6 leadership. She was a long‐standing member of the American Society of Physiology, published 7 extensively in the American Journal of Physiology: Endocrinology and Metabolism, and served 8 as a reviewer throughout her career and well into her retirement....
